Blackwood is the central zone of the Gates of Oblivion chapter, released in June 2021. It covers the marshes and river deltas of southern Cyrodiil bordering the Deadlands — Mehrunes Dagon's plane of Oblivion — with the Imperial city of Leyawiin as its main hub. Six treasure maps are tied to the zone, each marking a buried chest hidden across terrain that shifts between flooded wetlands, Ayleid ruins, and the volcanic scarps near the Deadlands border. Three Collector's Edition maps were bundled with chapter pre-orders at launch and follow the same mechanics, drawing from the same zone drop pool.
Where the value is
Three overland sets come out of Blackwood chests: Deadlands Assassin, Frostbite, and Bog Raider. Deadlands Assassin is the set that moves volume — a stamina-oriented burst set associated with stealth and ganking builds that sees demand spikes whenever that playstyle finds a meta window. Frostbite supports frost-staff damage builds, which surface periodically in trials and PvP when cold-damage synergies are competitive. Bog Raider trades more slowly and tends toward collectors and completionists rather than active build demand.
The three CE maps carry a premium independent of which set is in favor. They were available only to chapter pre-order buyers, cannot be farmed through zone play, and don't respawn. That scarcity keeps a floor under their price even when the standard maps soften.
How to get them
Maps drop from standard Blackwood zone loot — monsters, containers, and overland chests throughout the zone. No enemy type has a confirmed elevated drop rate. Both of the zone's public dungeons offer guaranteed chest spawns that supplement random map drops on a farming loop. All six standard maps trade regularly through guild traders; CE maps move less frequently and sourcing one may require checking multiple traders or waiting for a specific listing.
Chest locations across the zone:
- Map I: Southwest — inside a toppled ruined tower
- Map II: West — south of Sweetwater Cascades, under an overhang
- Map III: Far east, near the Stonewastes border
- Map IV: South — a hidden cove accessible from the waterline
- Map V: Central — under a rocky overhang along the path
- Map VI: North — down the hill below the closed gate at the zone's northern edge
