West Weald is the zone added with the Gold Road chapter in June 2024. It covers the forests and Ayleid ruins of western Cyrodiil, centered on the Imperial city of Skingrad, and introduces the Scribing system alongside a new Oblivion-connected storyline. Six treasure maps cover the zone's terrain, which shifts between dense woodland, crumbling Ayleid structures, and the open plains south of Skingrad. Three pre-purchase maps were available to players who bought Gold Road before launch; they follow the same dig-and-claim mechanics and draw from the same overland drop pool.
Where the value is
Three overland sets come out of West Weald chests: Macabre Vintage, Symmetry of the Weald, and Ayleid Refuge. Macabre Vintage is the set that generates consistent demand — its proc deals damage equal to a percentage of a killed enemy's maximum health, a scaling mechanic that finds a place in specific dungeon and trial clearing strategies. Symmetry of the Weald drives status-effect and damage-over-time builds, with amplified status chance above the health threshold; demand tracks closely with DoT-heavy meta shifts. Ayleid Refuge is a defensive blocking set that moves more slowly, mostly toward tanks and niche PvP builds.
The three pre-purchase maps carry a floor premium over the standard maps regardless of meta. They were a time-limited pre-order incentive and are not available through normal zone farming.
How to get them
Maps drop from standard West Weald zone loot — monsters, containers, and overland chests throughout the zone. West Weald uses Mirrormoor Incursions in place of the Dolmens found in older zones; these function as a reliable chest source alongside the zone's public dungeon runs. All six standard maps trade through guild traders with frequency proportional to how much activity the Gold Road zone sees. Pre-purchase maps move less often and require patience to source.
Chest locations across the zone:
- Map I: Northeast — open terrain east of Skingrad
- Map II: Far east — near the zone's eastern border
- Map III: Central-south — close to a world boss spawn point
- Map IV: Central-east — Ayleid ruin area
- Map V: West — forested region near the zone's western edge
- Map VI: Central — beside a waterfall
