Clockwork City is a DLC zone released in 2017, set entirely within Sotha Sil's artificial realm — a mechanical world of fabricants, brass architecture, and manufactured terrain that bears no resemblance to the rest of Tamriel. It's smaller than any of the base game or chapter zones, which shows in the map pool: two treasure maps only, no Collector's Edition variant, no pre-purchase bonus. What the zone lacks in breadth it compensates for in visual distinctiveness — and in a loot pool that occasionally matters when its sets find a competitive window.
Where the value is
Three overland sets come out of Clockwork City chests: Mad Tinkerer, Unfathomable Darkness, and Livewire. With only two maps in rotation, individual prices can run higher than the raw trading volume suggests — the supply ceiling is low and any surge in demand for one of the three sets tightens it quickly. Livewire draws from shock-damage build demand; Unfathomable Darkness fits shadow and assassin-style playstyles; Mad Tinkerer has historically attracted players building around summoned constructs and pet-adjacent mechanics. None of the three are constant meta staples, but each has a player base that returns when the conditions suit them.
There is no CE map for this zone.
How to get them
Maps drop from enemies, containers, and overland chests in Clockwork City. The zone requires the Clockwork City DLC (included in ESO Plus), which limits the farming population relative to base game zones. Both maps trade through guild traders but move less frequently than base game counterparts.
Chest locations:
- Map I: On the cliff before the tunnel toward Ventral Terminus — between the rocks beside the autumn tree
- Map II: North of the Evergroom cave portal, up the incline in the valley — beside the rocks and small tree on the left
